Benchmark Advanced
Fourth grade uses Benchmark Advanced for our Language Arts curriculum. This program is very hands-on with the ability to annotate in the text for each unit. Benchmark has 10 units and each unit consists of 3 weekly lessons.
Reading Goal
The 1st Trimester has a goal of 900 reading pages. This reading goal counts towards a Language Arts grade and is a requirement for R&R.
I meet with students individually to update them on their current reading pages. This process is to guide students towards their reading goal and take an interest in independent reading. Students are to read their chapter book (novel) every night for homework. After reading, students need to write their reading pages on a bookmark. They will use the same bookmark for the entire week. Every morning, your child will have an in class reading assignment called Weekly Reading Log. The class will be completing the Weekly Reading Log assignment based on what students read for homework. This will continue throughout the school year.
Cover Pages
When a student starts a new book, they will need to complete a new cover page (title, author, genre, pages). Once students are finished reading the entire book, then they will write a summary on the back of the cover page. When they are finished with the summary, then they will need to turn it in to count towards their reading pages.
